3. Sammy’s Coffee in Arorangi

Sammy’s offers a genuinely laid-back, community-focused vibe. For a sweet treat, the homemade Banoffee Cake is a must-try. Sammy’s provides high-quality, delicious fare that rivals the best in Rarotonga.

• The Vibe: It’s a popular, open-air spot where friendly staff and tropical garden seating provide a perfect chill-out environment. It’s the quintessential island cafe—unpretentious, quick, and highly welcoming for those seeking a break from resort life.
• The Dish: While the excellent espresso is a major draw – we love the Iced Coffee and Iced Chocolates and recommend those! But the menu is also celebrated for its hearty and fresh offerings. Visitors consistently praise the large, flavorful Breakfast Burritos and the huge, satisfying Tropical Chicken Wrap.

For authentic, affordable, and incredibly filling local food, you must find Ka Ena Takeaways. This is a humble, roadside establishment right opposite the beautiful Aro’a Beach Marine Reserve – the best island beach for snorkelling! 

• The Vibe: Zero fuss, maximum flavour. This is a grab-and-go spot, embodying the true spirit of local island eating.
• The Dish: The menu features hearty plates of BBQ meat (ribs or chicken) and various starchy sides. But seek out their massive Island Plates which offer a true taste of local cooking and are amazing value.
• Budget Tip: This is one of the best spots on the island for a quick, cheap, and utterly satisfying dinner. Plus – it is right opposite the beautiful Aro’a Beach Marine Reserve!

At Tumutoa Tours, TLC offers fresh, simple local lunch near The Edgewater Resort area in Arorangi.

11. OTB On The Beach

OTB On The Beach is the main restaurant one the beautiful West Coast beach of Rarotonga. OTB has a particularly popular Sunday evening fire show and buffet night that is so highly recommended!

• The Vibe: Tropical resort luxury. You have sweeping, postcard-perfect views of the lagoon and the sunset from their expansive deck.
• The Food: A reliable, wide-ranging menu that caters to international tastes but always includes high-quality fresh fish and Polynesian options. It’s a great choice for a hassle-free dinner with reliable service and an incredible atmosphere.
